PSA for Japanese relief efforts.
On March 11 at 2:46pm JST a massive 9.0-magnitude earthquake occurred near the northeastern coast of Japan, creating extremely destructive tsunami waves which hit Japan just minutes after the earthquake, and triggering evacuations and warnings across the Pacific Ocean. The earthquake and tsunami have caused extensive and severe damage in Northeastern Japan, leaving thousands of people confirmed dead, injured or missing, and millions more affected by lack of electricity, water and transportation.

Elvis Presley – Love me Tender (Viva Elvis)

Have you noticed all the I love you graffiti all over the place? What if it was more than just graffiti?

That’s the premise of this music video for Elvis Presley’s Love Me Tender. It’s the second single from the 2010 album, Viva Elvis.

Yes. THAT Elvis Presley. It’s not everyday that one gets picked to direct a music video for the King. It gets even better when you get to work with awesome people in two cities plus pickups at Graceland.

A ridiculous amount of motion tracking was implemented to digitally replace billboards and signage to add more images of Elvis into the existing environment.

This is the US version of the video. There are eight other versions of this video with minor graphic changes for each of the vocalists from selected to sing the duet with Elvis for their respective markets. There is also another version for the general international market.

Viral Extension:

The video was pitched with an online viral extension: an opportunity for an accompanying website where registered users can submit photos of “I Love You” graffiti from their own city and send them to other people. The recipients would have to register to receive and send their own messages as well.

We were asked to design some visuals for Rush‘s 2010 Time Machine tour. These 40′x20′ steampunk-inspired screens will frame live and archive footage of the legendary Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Niel Peart as they tour North America over the Summer and early Fall.

Switch Interactive and I produced this little bit of PR under a ridiculous timeline. We knew it was worth it when when the video received a standing ovation from a stadium full of students after its debut. The subsequent awards it would go on to earn were nice as well.
