The lovely people at the Madrid-based online magazine Playground asked me to put together a playlist of some of my favorite clips from YouTube. It’s in Spanish, so I’m not really sure what the preample to the piece says, but I’m sure somone will translate it for me at some point. More of our YouTube favorites can be found here.

Dancers, Behind the Scenes in The Province

The Province has a gallery of photos from the set of the new Circlesquare video, Dancers. The gallery goes behind the scenes and was shot by Arlen Redekop. There’s also a feature on the band in today’s print edition, written by Tom Harrison. They briefly mention the video.
The Province is one of the two major daily newspapers in British Columbia.
Bienvenido Cruz is an Art Thief

A photo of the elusive Bienvenido Cruz was used to accompany a short story by Sam Kerr in this year’s Holiday issue of Ion Magazine. Shot by Sanaz Afshar, this photo is not unlike the footage of the equally elusive Sasquatch captured by Roger Patterson and Robert Gimlin. One can also contemplate the irony of the story’s title (The Outside Man) and Mr. Cruz’s love/hate relationship with the “Art World.”
Fight Sounds on VBS.tv

Someone told us that the video we directed for Circlesquare‘s Fight Sounds Pt. 1 is now screening at Vice Magazine‘s online video site, VBS.tv. We have no idea how it got there.
Fake Shark-Real Zombie! in Discorder

One our photographs of Parker from Fake Shark-Real Zombie! landed in this month’s issue of Discorder. The shot was taken at their March 15th show at the Lamplighter.
Grizzly Bear on The New Pollution

The New Pollution published some photos I took at last February’s Grizzly Bear show. Read the article here.
The National in Ion: The Year in Live Music

Rememeber that great show The National played at Richard’s on Richards back in October? Ion just published one of the shots I took that night for their feature on The Year in Live Music.
We Can be Heroes (but just on MySpace)

Sometimes (rarely), shit like this happens to me. It’s really flattering, but gives me an uneasy feeling. Still, it’s pretty awesome. Oh, just go start a fanclub already.
Georgia Straight on Resfest

Resfest got some ink in the local entertainment weekly.
The CanCon program, now in its fourth year, includes music videos by MSTRKRFT, the Constantines, and Circlesquare (filmed by local director Bienvenido Cruz). Local filmmaker Jamie Travis’s short “Saddest Boy in the World”, which Travis describes as “a dark comedy about a boy who prepares to hang himself at his ninth birthday party”, is also in the mix.

Fight Sounds Pt. 1 airs on MuchMusic’s The Wedge between videos by Ladytron and Peter Shelley.
Big Stereo Likes Fight Sounds
“So simple, yet so brilliant. This is one of those rare occasions when the video actually takes the song to a whole different level.”
Non-Revival Alarm on Remote on DVD

Circlesquare’s Non-Revival Alarm featured on Remote on DVD 4 with videos from The Streets, TV on the Radio, RJD2, Chromeo, Liars, The Shins, The Stills, and shitloads more.

Vicki Wong explores creative Vancouver in the latest issue of IdN (V11N2), featuring Deepseat, Sharilyn Wright, Picnic, Superdeux, Pete Hoang, Joseph Wu, ESM, Sara Bailey, Sunja Link, myself (Bienvenido Cruz), and many others.
This is nice. The photo of me is awful but they did publish some of my photos and some stills from Non-Revival Alarm.

“A mesmerizing collaboration between the visual artist Bienvenido Cruz and the electronica act Circlesquare … As the beat comes in, tumbling pills and wisps of smoke give way to commingling fluids. The images are beautiful, but also unnerving: it’s a parable of disease, and rhythm itself may be the contaminant.”
